General

Name: Minerva McGonagall

Nicknames (and who is likely to use them): Minnie (by her contemporaries). She's heard all the nicknames, but nobody would dare say any of them to her face (maybe Harry could get away with one or two).

Age: *glares at you over the top of her glasses*

Birthday: 4 October 1925 (I'm going with the Lexicon date)

Place of Residence: Hogwarts

Appearance

Height: 5' 5" (165cm)

Weight: 65 kg

Eyes: Blue

Hair Colour & Style: Auburn slowly going a soft grey, often worn in a bun under her hat.

Skin tone: fair

Build: slight

Distinguishing Marks: None really. Her registered Animagus marking is a tabby cat with her colouring giving the appearance of a mask around her eyes.

Dress Style: Traditional robes, often in the family tartan, or shades of green or black.

Things they would always carry with them: her wand, her glasses, and a locket containing undisclosed contents (a photograph and a lock of hair).

Health

Disabilities/Handicaps: Minerva has been warned to take it easy due to her age. Her response was to glare at the healer in question, but she knows that her nine lives are close to being up. Ask after her health, and you are likely to be given the very same glare. You thought detention at school was bad. That was nothing.

Health in general – both mental and physical: Her memory is succumbing to the occasional bout of forgetfulness. But she is utterly terrified of going senile (it runs in her family). She will fight that to the end, as she couldn't bear to live if she lost her mental faculties. Physically, she's not bad for her age. She dismisses the rumours she has a weak heart.

Personality

First Impression (others have of you): Most people's first impression of Minerva is accompanied by memories of the sorting hat. Wise, formidable, stern, prudish, stubborn, compassionate, authoritarian, stubbornly fair to the point of unfairness. She also exudes many of the best qualities of a true Gryffindor (although not surprisingly, she has traits from all four houses). This all depends on how well the person did at school, and what house they were in. She doesn't care what students think of her, but if you earned her respect, you would have found her compassionate, and always willing to bend over backwards to help any student who wanted to learn.

General Behaviour: When interacting with students, she is consistent in her decisions. But she has been known to be ruled by her heart, and can sometimes make decisions that after some thought, were a little rash and emotional. When dealing with people outside of school, she can sometimes forget to take off her headmistress mantle, and that can make her seem a little unapproachable or haughty. Only when she can relax enough do you get to know the real witch and woman.

Strengths: She is utterly loyal. She loves learning and loves educating children, seeing them develop and grow into their own potential. Her belief that what she is doing is right. Her belief in the work of Albus Dumbledore. A quirky sense of humour that others might not understand. She has an insatiable curiosity (blame the feline).

Weaknesses: Stubborn old Scotswoman. People may try to take advantage of her sense of compassion. Her memory, or when people strike at those she loves. Is quick to frustration if things aren't going her way. She can have a touch of impatience. She has an insatiable curiosity (yes, strength and weakness).

Enjoys: Minerva likes the simple things in life. Simple but hearty food, good books, good conversation with clever company, and the odd 'medicinal' glass of scotch. Oh, and there's a more than obvious passion for Quidditch. She misses it dreadfully.

Dislikes: Liars, cheats, scoundrels, incompetence, laziness. Death Eaters.

Family

Spouse/partner (if applicable): none (although check out her secret)

Parents: Annie (nee Fraser) and William McGonagall (Muggle) Both deceased.

Sibling(s): two brothers - Keith (squib) and Gordon. Both deceased.

Children: One son, Tobin Fraser McGonagall (although for his safety, he goes just by Tobin Fraser). Squib, early 40's. Lives with foster family in Cardiff, and has full knowledge of his mother, and who she is. He's been hidden in the Muggle world for his protection all his life. Father unknown, or TBA.

Bloodline: halfblood

Family History: Minerva grew up in Edinburgh, the youngest child and only daughter of mixed heritage. Her wealthy pureblood grandparents (of highland stock) disowned their only daughter after she ran off with a Muggle from the lowlands. Her squib brother, Keith, was killed during the Blitz, and her other brother came foul of a liaison with a Hebridean Black dragon (he married into the Macfusty clan, and moved to the Hebrides Islands to raise dragons). She was engaged at an extremely young age, and was preparing to elope when her fiancee was killed during Grindelwald's reign of terror. These tragic losses made her a stronger woman, and her bravery and unwavering loyalty to the forces of good were formed in those years. In a fit of madness after this, she married Tiberius Ogden, but despite a year of fiery passion, their egos clashed too much, and they divorced. A bout of Dragon pox as a child left her bedridden for a few months, helping her to discover the joy of books, and a lifelong obsession with learning.

The less said about her son's father, the better (ie, I have no idea yet who he is.)

Pets: She uses school owls for her correspondence.

Social/Romantic/Sexual

Close Friendships: her Order members are her close friends. Hooch, Severus, Harry, Remus and Aberforth. Any others are TBA.

Known Enemies: any Death Eaters. Possibly some members of the Isolationists faction. Small yappy dogs.

Sexual Preference: straight, but she certainly has no discrimination against homosexuality. She understands that you cannot help who you fall in love with.

Turn Ons: Intelligence, quick wit, bravery, and a well filled Quidditch uniform can get the heart racing.

Turn Offs: liars, scoundrels, drunkards, slobs. Falmouth Falcons fans. They are a bunch of cheating so-and-so's.

Past Relationships: Her deceased fiancée is the only relationship she will admit to (okay, so she may have had a 'thing' for Tiberius Ogden in her youth. He pestered her from the time he was twelve, and when he was a man in his early twenties, he was still pestering her). There is absolutely no truth to the rumour about that tom cat. Having said that, though, she has lived a very long and fruitful life, and there is plenty of detail that could be filled in, if the right questions are asked in the right way at the right time.
What they think about sex and love: There can be love without the sex, which is difficult to explain to the younger folk who seem to think it happens the other way around.

Other: Many people were under the impression she was romantically involved with Albus Dumbledore. She will neither confirm or deny these allegations, and any further discussion on the topic is disrespectful to the memory of Albus. Suffice to say that when he died, she lost a long time friend and close confidante. A part of her died with him that day.

Magical

Wand Type: Hornbeam with Dragon Heartstring Core, 10 1/4 inches. (Excellent for Transfiguration).

Magical talents: Transfiguration, with the animagus transfiguration her speciality.

Magical weaknesses/aversions (what your character can't or won't do): It's not so much that she can't brew potions, it's that her sense of smell makes it difficult to stomach the brewing process. She could brew a potion in an emergency, but nothing too complex.

First sign of magic – when and what: Her first bouts of childhood accidental magic were fairly complex transfigurations. She kept transfiguring rocks and sticks into new live 'pets' after her pet kneazle went missing.

Boggart: A pomeranian.

Knows how to Apparate (y/n): yes

Knows how to cast a patronus (y/n – if yes what?): a cat

Knows how to use the unforgivables (y/n): Now there is an interesting question. She has been known to use the Imperius curse in extreme situations, but she can fully justify it in the name of justice. But only that unforgivable.

Other: Registered Animagus. Minerva's form is a Tabby cat.

Schooling:

Year: (in relation to Harry's year) The Lexicon has her there from 1936-42.

House: Gryffindor

Other Affiliations: Gryffindor quidditch team (captain), Head Girl, Wizarding Chess club champion.

Best subject(s): Transfiguration, Charms, Ancient Runes, History of Magic.

Poor subject(s): Potions, Herbology, Divination, Astronomy

Electives s/he would have taken: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy

Best Mates: Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank, Poppy Pomfrey and Pomona Sprout

Romantic interests: so long ago she can barely remember. There was a Keeper on the Ravenclaw quidditch team that could certainly get the girls to swoon, and a certain good looking Slytherin prefect that most girls had their eye on at one time or another.

Level of education reached: Minerva sat her OWLs and NEWTs and went on to apprentice to Albus Dumbledore in Transfiguration, becoming a student teacher, then a full teacher when Albus became headmaster.

Financial

Current Occupation: Headmistress, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Head of the Order of the Phoenix.

Other Occupations (side incomes, volunteer work, illegal activities): Minerva already has enough to do without getting involved in any more work.

Monetary Situation: The school somehow provides for itself, and the elves are quite resourceful in providing for the inhabitants of the castle. She had modest savings, but they were mostly kept with her in the castle. She has the unenviable task of having to channel funds for the Order, and their funding isn't what it once was (who does fund the Order anyway?)

Current situation

Affiliations & Organisations: Order of the Phoenix

Faction this character supports: The Order's Faction

Role in the ongoing war: Head of the Order, Headmistress and leading the faction that feels the wizarding world will not survive unless it turns to the Muggles and starts to integrate with their society.

Finally

What is your character's deepest, darkest secret (one that other game characters probably wouldn't know and that he/she would prefer they didn't find out about) Also list the names of anyone who might know, or might be suspicious of this knowledge:

Tom Riddle went to school with Minerva (if you follow Lexicon dates, he was a year behind her), and she had a rather strong infatuation for him. She may have been swayed by his charms a time or two in a secluded spot in the library, but when he found out she was only a halfblood, he quickly ignored her. She felt a little slighted by this at the time.

Her son is her strongest secret. Only Albus ever knew, and only because she needed someone to confide in. Poppy might know because of her medical training. Tobin was born a squib, and Minerva knew from the experience of her brother and father, that the boy would be better off being raised in the Muggle world. Fostered by squib friends, Tobin has been kept away from much of the wizarding world. But he hasn't been completely isolated, and he's not completely estranged from his mother. He's not completely happy with her either.

She also had a rather short lived but fiery and passionate marriage to one Tiberius Ogden. But that was 60 years ago now. It lasted less than a year, and she left him to deal with the details of a divorce. Only Tiberius knows this, as thankfully everyone who was around at that time is now dead. The paperwork is also blessedly buried deep.
